Soundflower gives you a greater flexibility when it comes to directing sound on your Mac. There are no serious drawbacks to mention. Besides two-channel virtual audio device, it also comes with a 64-channel device.

You can select Soundflower as the default audio device for individual applications or set it as the main sound devices for the Mac itself. You can direct sound between any applications.
